When I found out I was a part of the Keto Quick Start Launch Team I did a tiny dance in my cubicle. I’m super honored to be one of the first people to read this book, especially since I’ve been a long time listener of the Balanced Bites Podcast. At the same time, I was nervous because after my first foray into a ketogenic diet, I was critical of it. It was too easy to fall into a trap of eating nothing but meat and cheese, which seems less like a healthy modern diet but more what a disgruntled trucker named George would eat.

A Real Foods Based Approach to Keto

Friends, I can safely say that if you’re looking to try a keto diet in the new year, this will be the guide for you. Most of the meals are plant-based, with every meal having at least 1-2 servings of vegetables. If you missed my favorites of Diane’s previous books, Practical Paleo and 21 Day Detox, just know that the author is committed to getting real foods in the hands of the every day person. She’s a Certified Nutrition Consultant who is passionate about helping others regulate a variety of health concerns, food allergies and wellness in general.

I appreciate Diane’s ethos to food quite a bit, let alone the (incredible) recipes themselves. I think the big win for me was that most of the meals are accessible. The ingredients are readily available for a variety of budgets. I could easily find most of the ingredients at Aldi, Whole Foods, Costco and HyVee. I find that most of these meals are easily made in under 20 minutes, in an instant pot with leftovers to spare the next day at work.
