How I Changed My Skincare After a Melanoma Scare

My Skin Biopsy: For starters, the mole in question whom I named Donald after someone else I’d love to see unceremoniously removed, was that it looked nothing like the ABCDE example moles on WebMD. It was a flat dot on my right thigh that looked I’d accidentally poked myself with an uncapped crayola marker. I’d had it since birth, proven by my baby photos, but had faded in adulthood. It looked different since I once dropped a boom mic on it while wearing shorts and scraped it. Lengthy backstory notwithstanding, my dermatologist looked at the birthmark under a microscope and thought it looked “pretty suspicious”. Less than 10 minutes later,…

Kansas City Fashion: Trends to Spot for Fall 2018

In a moment of fall fashion weakness, I bought the September editions of my two favorite fashion magazines Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar to scan for the big trends of fall at the same time. Friends, the Kansas City fashion trends you will see on all bloggers’ Instagram accounts, in the stores and in your closet will not disappoint. Let’s go: Bold, Rich Reds: I was 10 pages into the September Vogue when I realized that red is the color of the season. I know, I know: Red for fall is not ground breaking. (Especially if you’re a Nebraska fan!). But these reds were bolder and brighter than usual. Wear What’s…

How I Did It: Bedroom Decor on A Budget

Like every basic white girl ever, I love redoing my bedroom decor when I move almost as much as I love Pumpkin Spice Lattes. However, I wanted to stick to a  budget of $300 which I originally thought would be a challenge for what I wanted to do with my new space: Create a vanity space for makeup and hair, get high-quality and on trend bedding and pick up some modern, white end nightstand tables. No pressure, right? My go-to when I’m in a budget crunch is to go to Goodwill, which ended up being a bust. At first, there looked like no good solution; I thought I’d have to…

    Mini Bar on a Budget

As a firm believer that an open bar is second only to a free buffet, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with the extra space nestled in the built-in bookshelf + cabinet area in my new living room. Knowing I didn’t have the cash for a Mad Men-esque minibar nor the desire for a full out bar, I used my space to its fullest. Yes, it’s important to have a fully stocked bar, but in a limited space, it’s more important to have spirits that make you smile too. My mini-bar picks: Jack Daniel Tennessee Honey Platte Valley Fireshine, made locally in Weston, MO at McCormick Distillery Amigoni…

    MODA Shoot: June 2018

What do I remember most about this particular MODA shoot organized by Kansas City Fashion Council? The heat! It was about 100 degrees outside and yet all of the photographers powered through 5+ shoots that afternoon. All things considered, this shoot was my favorite yet. It was held in and around Feasts of Fancy in the west bottoms of Kansas City. I will absolutely be back for more photoshoots, simply because the indoor lighting and the mix of street art + nature around the building were unparalled. I had a nice blend of newer and more tenured models to shoot with. I hit the jackpot by being able to shoot…

3 Quick, Fashionable Ways to Celebrate Earth Day

Follow my blog with Bloglovin Let’s talk about Earth. Put on some Earth, Wind and Fire or an old episode of Captain Planet for effect while you read this. Let me know when you’re back. You good? Good. I think there’s this huge misconception about “living green” that revolves around this image of only eating tofu and possibly living in a yurt outside of an Urban Outfitters. I operate under the assumption that when I know better, I can do better. From your morning commute, to fashion and fluffy friends, here’s what you can do today: Help Homeless Animals: I admittedly have a super soft spot for adopted animals: one…
